Hazardous Area Pumps – Expertise in ATEX, NORSOK, and Global Compliance

Operating in explosive atmospheres requires strict regulatory compliance and precise engineering. We specialise in the design and manufacture of bespoke pump packages certified for safe operation in hazardous areas, including ATEX, IECEx, CSA, and NORSOK. Because no two hazardous environments are the same, our systems are custom-engineered in the UK to meet the specific safety, spatial, and material requirements of your site – whether for offshore energy platforms, petrochemical processing, or marine environments. Our in-house team handles the complete integration of mechanical equipment, hazardous-area instrumentation, and control systems to ensure end-to-end compliance.

Why Choose Calder for Hazardous Area Pumps?

Our reputation is built on a deep understanding of hazardous area compliance and a commitment to engineering excellence. We are not just a manufacturer – we are a solutions provider. From concept to commissioning, we work closely with our clients to deliver pump packages that are tailored to their specific operational and regulatory requirements.

Whether your project is located in the North Sea, the Middle East, or offshore Canada, our hazardous area pumps are designed to perform in the harshest environments on the planet.

Global Compliance Across Hazardous Applications

Because we engineer bespoke packages, any of our hazardous area pump systems can be designed, built, and certified to meet the specific regulatory framework of your project’s location. We provide full compliance for ATEX, IECEx, CSA, and NORSOK across all major offshore and industrial applications, including:

  • Chemical & Methanol Injection: Process and dosing systems for refineries, offshore platforms and marine green-fuel propulsion.
  • FPSO & Petrochemical Processing: Custom process pump skids engineered to meet the exact footprint and hazardous zoning of the facility.
  • Drill Cuttings Re-injection & Well Intervention: Heavy-duty, high-flow systems designed for extreme offshore environments.
  • Closed-Loop Cooling Systems: High-volume cooling skids for offshore platform electrification, power-from-shore projects, and energy resilience projects.

ATEX Pump Packages

Calder has extensive experience in supplying ATEX-certified pump units for both Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas. Our Worcester-based design and manufacturing facility ensures that every unit is built to the highest European safety standards. We understand the complexities of ATEX compliance and integrate explosion-proof components, intrinsically safe controls, and robust enclosures to ensure full conformity.

Our hazardous area pump systems are widely used in:

  • Offshore energy platforms
  • FPSOs
  • Petrochemical plants
  • Refineries
  • Chemical processing facilities

Each system is custom-engineered to meet your flow, pressure, and medium requirements while maintaining full ATEX certification.

NORSOK Pump Packages

For operations in the Norwegian sector and other regions adopting NORSOK standards, Calder offers fully compliant pump solutions. Our NORSOK pump units are designed to meet the stringent safety, environmental, and performance criteria set by the Norwegian petroleum industry.

We have successfully delivered NORSOK-compliant well service pumps and vacuum units that are currently operating on North Sea platforms. These systems are engineered for:

  • Well intervention and stimulation
  • Drill cuttings re-injection
  • Cementing and pressure testing
  • Methanol injection and acidising

Our in-house engineering team ensures that every component—from the pump head to the control system—meets NORSOK specifications and your operational needs.

IECEx, CSA, and More

In addition to ATEX and NORSOK, Calder designs and manufactures pump units that comply with a wide range of international hazardous area standards, including IECEx for global applications, particularly in the Australasian market, and CSA for offshore Canadian operations.

Our global compliance capabilities make us the ideal partner for multinational projects requiring consistent safety and performance across various industry and customer regulations and standards.

Engineering Excellence and Customisation

At Calder, we pride ourselves on our bespoke engineering capabilities. Every hazardous area pump package is designed in-house by our experienced team of mechanical, electrical, and control engineers. We offer:

We tailor each system to your exact specifications while maintaining our customary high quality.

Built for Harsh Environments

Hazardous areas are often accompanied by extreme environmental conditions – salt-laden air, high humidity, temperature extremes, and mechanical vibration. Calder pump systems are built to withstand these challenges. We use corrosion-resistant materials, robust structural designs, and advanced coatings to ensure long-term reliability and minimal maintenance.

Our Latest Hazardous Area Pump Projects

Our hazardous area pumps are trusted by major operators in the oil and gas, petrochemical, and energy sectors. We have a proven track record, delivering hundreds of systems worldwide, each backed by our commitment to quality, safety, compliance, and customer satisfaction.

Well service pump package compliant with Canadian CSA standards.

  • Compliance: CSA
  • Application: Cuttings Re-injection and Well Service
  • Medium: Cuttings and well service fluids
  • Bespoke Capability Highlight: The twin pump unit will be used for cuttings re-injection and well service fluids injection and is sour service compatible. The unit is for an existing and operational platform, so the footprint was fixed and the access limited. The skid is designed to be disassembled after testing and re-assembled on site.

Our customer witnessed the F.A.T. testing. All pump units built by Calder receive thorough testing. We have test bays built specifically for the testing of large, powerful pump packages. The set-up for these very powerful pump units was a significant task in itself.

Cooling pump system for a major power-from-shore project.

  • Compliance: NORSOK and ATEX Zone 1
  • Application: Thermal Management Offshore
  • Medium: Seawater
  • Bespoke Capability Highlight: This system is NORSOK and ATEX Zone 1 compliant to operate in a hazardous area on an offshore Norwegian platform. The cooling medium is Tri-Ethylene Glycol (TEG) and water mix, and will be circulated in a closed loop system. This is a high flow package with a flow rate of almost 200 cubic metres per hour.

Green fuel injection pump skid for marine propulsion.

  • Compliance: ATEX Zone 2
  • Application: Ship Propulsion
  • Medium: Methanol
  • Bespoke Capability Highlight: This pump package will inject methanol in an ATEX Zone 2 hazardous area. For this project we selected a pump model from our HAMPRO® pump range which has excellent reliability, long service intervals, and features zero leakage-to-atmosphere technology. We designed, built and tested this pump skid package at our factory in Worcester, UK.

Compact Chemical Injection Pump Skid

  • Compliance: ATEX Zone 2
  • Application: Chemical Injection
  • Medium: Chemicals
  • Bespoke Capability Highlight: A challenging design for a platform with significantly limited deck space. Never have we had to fit so much equipment into such a small space.
