Offshore Vacuum Package Leaves Our Worcester Factory

This offshore vacuum package is for a returning customer. The particularly harsh nature of the operating location requires equipment engineered to withstand the conditions. For over ten years, Calder vacuum packages have done just that for this customer.

The vacuum package is ATEX Zone 2 compliant. It will be used for offshore waste recovery and has a flow rate of up to 2,270 cfm. It is from our MultiVac range of hazardous area vacuums.

This unit is ATEX Zone 2-rated and complies with DNV Standard for Certification 2.7-2.

The DNV 2.7-2 standard for offshore service modules stipulates a range of safety measures. These provide even greater protection for both the equipment and the offshore environment in which it operates. Among the requirements are: lockable doors when closed with fire resistant seals; integral gas detector; portable fire extinguisher system; power safe in the event of a failure; and externally accessible fuel shut-off valve.

On Yet Another Gloriously Sunny Day in Worcester, a Container Arrives.

Offshore vacuum container arrives at our Worcester factory.

Usually, the arrival of a container is some time after the start of the project. For most projects, there are the engineering and design processes which consume the first few weeks of a project.

In this case, being a returning customer wanting to add the same design of vacuum package to their fleet, the container arrived much earlier in the process. That is not to say the design is simply a copy of our previous supply. Even standard products need continual improvement, and we made some changes to this package based on feedback from our customer.

Vacuum Container Fit-out Begins

The first task is to line the container with sound attenuation panels. The sound attenuation material is wrapped to its maintain shape and then held in position with stainless steel mesh.

Then we fit bracketry that will support the many components that form the vacuum system.


Vacuum Skid Build in Progress

The vacuum skid is in build and will then be fitted into the offshore container.

Most of our containerised vacuum and pump packages are built onto the skid and then moved into the container. The main components in the picture are the Volvo engine, the vacuum pump to the right, and the blue equipment, which is the engine cooling kit and flame trap.

As with all of our vacuum and pump packages, the testing is carried out in-house in one of our test bays. The photo shows the package in our smaller test bay, as the large bay is currently being used to test a land-based well intervention pump package.

The testing was witnessed in person by our customer. However, we also offer remote viewing of the testing.

And that’s it. Or is it?
Not really. As the unit leaves our factory, the project is handed over to the after-sales team. We will support our customer with any commissioning, training, spare parts, and servicing work that they require. And our engineers will only be a phone call away.
