the challenge

Our customer required a triple-pump skid package to pump MEG (Mono Ethylene Glycol) for an existing platform in the Norwegian North Sea. In addition to the customer’s own stringent specifications, the package also had to be NORSOK and ATEX compliant. Given the operating location, there was a requirement for all of the equipment to be enclosed.

Complicating the design, the package had to be installed on an operational offshore platform with limited access and space.

Modular, triple-pump MEG injection pump skid package

the solution

Through bespoke engineering and extensive project experience, Calder designed and manufactured a modular pump skid in accordance with NORSOK working environment principles. Given the significant space constraints, the equipment layout was optimised to promote safe operation, inspection, and maintenance access, supporting the ergonomic, accessibility, and maintainability requirements outlined in the NORSOK standards. Equal emphasis was placed on the interfaces between the modules to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate assembly during offshore installation, minimising installation risk and supporting lifecycle operability.

Modular triple-pump package compliant with ATEX and NORSOK.

the result

Our customer has a triple-pump package that is now operating in a hazardous area on a platform in offshore Norwegian waters. Our support team visited the platform to assemble the pump skid modules in situ. Then Calder engineers supported the customer’s team on site during the commissioning process.

A modular framework supports stainless steel maintenance access doors that protect the equipment from the environment. The doors are all lockable and are fitted with sound-attenuation panels. The package features three electrically driven Hammelmann HamPro 140 series pumps – each pumping Mono Ethylene Glycol. Whilst we generally select Hammelmann pumps for their long service intervals and low maintenance costs, their vertical configuration offers a small footprint which is ideal for projects like this where space is limited.
