Position Summary
The Purchasing Manager will primarily be responsible for:
- Managing a team of purchasing specialists and the stores function to ensure the delivery of goods, equipment and services to the required standards of:
- Quality
- Cost
- Delivery
- Develop and implement a robust purchasing strategy that supports business objectives.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the supply chain to ensure on-time, in-full delivery at the best possible cost, and to manage requests for tender related to parts, equipment, and services.
- Manage and develop the processes and systems to deliver seamless departmental flow from supplier development to item delivery.
- Full responsibility for inventory, ensuring effective processes are in place for goods receipt and dispatch, accurate inventory management, safe storage of materials, and the timely availability of components for workshop build.
Main Duties:
1. Purchasing:
- Co-ordinate, support and develop the project responsible buyers to ensure professional and competent support to Project Managers.
- Correct allocation, management and monitoring of all purchasing projects.
- Strategically manage supplier capacity for fluctuating workloads across all projects.
- Liaise with the QHSE Manager to coordinate activities regarding supplier quality.
- Ensure the timely delivery of goods, parts, equipment etc. to ensure the workshop team can achieve build deadlines.
- Collaborate with other departments to forecast demand and optimise strategic stock levels.
- Regularly report on issues that may have an impact on the workshop build schedule.
- Recognise potential issues early, expedite orders and query late deliveries.
- Research and select approved suppliers who conform to company quality, delivery, certification and cost specifications to support business needs.
- Ensure Project Management Procedures and Quality Plans are being followed accurately.
- Make sure parts ordered are fit for purpose and components meet relevant standards including Norsok, ATEX and CSA.
- Ensure appropriate documentation is supplied along with components, where applicable.
- Be able to challenge engineering to highlight where the supply chain may come up with alternative options that could positively impact projects.
- Negotiate with suppliers in order to ensure optimum cost and quality for the company.
- Maintain strong supplier relationships and monitor performance.
- Minimise waste and unnecessary costs and ensure projects are completed within budget.
- Identify and implement opportunities for cost savings and efficiency.
- Prepare quotation and contract documentation and review quotation and contract submissions.
- Seek out knowledge/trends within the industry; be fully aware of material cost and availability.
- Maintain metrics and reports to support strategic decision-making.
- Ensure all procedures are in accordance with Company approved standards and industry regulations.
Main Duties:
2. Stores Management:
- Full responsibility for inventory including good inwards, goods outwards, stock and work in progress, delivery accuracy, perpetual inventory system and the safe storage of materials, consumables and PPE.
- Accurate and up-to-date knowledge of inventory locations.
- Ensure physical and system inventory are accurate and match.
- Knowledge of stock location during the build and ensuring stock is in the correct build storage area.
- Loading of incoming components to project area in preparation for build.
- Responsibility for stock pumps and engines being stored in line with manufacturers requirements, e.g. logging and managing pump rotation when required.
- In conjunction with Project Manager, control project stock (overflow from previous jobs).
- Full responsibility for stock take including all relevant policies. This includes the timely closing down of projects in conjunction with Project Managers.
Preferred Skills, Competencies & Experience:
- Degree/CIPS qualified (or equivalent).
- Proven experience in procurement and purchasing management in a bespoke engineering product environment.
- Experience of stores and inventory management for project purchasing.
- Hands-on experience with purchasing software and systems.
- Extensive knowledge and experience of bespoke capital engineering projects including P&ID’s, welding procedures and the ability to read engineering drawings.
- High pressure pump, rotating equipment and offshore requirements experience (an advantage, but not essential).
- You will have the ability to communicate with people at all levels of business and establish good working relationships with a wide range of people both internally and externally.
- You will be target driven, with drive to achieve and surpass personal targets and business objectives.
- You will be commercially competent with established negotiating skills.
- Be able to negotiate supplier T&C’s and ensure Calder’s requirements are optimised.
