Drillship BOP Test System

11th Nov 2017

Work begins on a blowout preventer (BOP) test system for operation in an ATEX, Zone 2 hazardous environment on a drillship. The scope of supply includes a high pressure BOP test pump skid, mixing tank skid, accumulator skids, hydraulic control panel, electrical controls, and control system philosophy.

The BOP test unit will feature a Hammelmann reciprocating plunger pump. We use the Hammelmann pump for its space-saving vertical design, long time between services, and its reliability. Power will be supplied through an ATEX Zone 2 compliant electric motor enabling the unit to achieve test pressures of up to 345 bar (5,000 psi).

Each BOP test skid will be mounted in a crash frame which offers the dual benefits of being lightweight and also providing a high level of protection during transport operations. The crash frame will have lifting eyes and fork-lift slots, and a spill-containment/bund feature.

All design, build and testing of this BOP test system will take place under one roof at our factory in Worcester, UK.
