Calder to Build Pressure Equalisation Pump for BP Hod

Along with our sister company, PG Flow Solutions, Calder will supply pressure equalisation pump packages to Aker BP for the Wellhead Platform Alliance. The equipment will operate on the normally unmanned wellhead platform in the North Sea Hod field development.

The scope of supply includes a variety of pumps. Calder will build the pressure equalisation pump package, whilst PG Flow Solutions will build freshwater, freshwater pressure, diesel transfer, and open drain pump packages. The pressure equalisation package is similar to that supplied for Valhall Flank West. The Valhall Flank West platform is also a normally unmanned platform in the Wellhead Platform Alliance.

The Pump Package

The pressure equalisation pump is of a field-proven design and will operate in ambient temperatures of -10°C to +25°C. To meet with the project specifications, we designed the pump package to NORSOK standards with additional Aker/BP specifications. The unit complies with NORSOK R-001, NORSOK L-001, NORSOK S-001, NORSOK M-630, API 674, and ATEX Zone 2 standards. More about our hazardous area capabilities.

This pump package features a Hammelmann reciprocating plunger pump. We will fit a pulsation damper to both the suction and discharge pipework. The pump’s lubrication oil system includes pressure and temperature monitoring, and the lube system is cooled by blast air cooler. All tubing and fittings used on the skid are of 6Mo material.

Due to the stringent noise requirements, the unit has an acoustically attenuated, stainless steel, floor-mounted environmental enclosure. The enclosure will also offer the equipment significant protection from the elements.
